Songs of Happiness!

Happy beautiful Friday my Happy clan!  I hope you all are having a wonderful morning so far!!  I am in a fantastic mood today and plan to stay that way all day long!  I woke up to the sun shining calmly in my room, just slightly but enough to spread some glimmer to the morning.  My Johnny was all smiles and full of happiness this morning as well - and that made the morning even brighter!  Then, as I was driving him to school one of our favorite "jams" came on the radio and we danced and sang the whole way there!!  It has been such a marvelous morning and I am excited to keep this happiness going!!!

Even though I was already in a really good mood this morning - when our song came on it made the morning that much more awesome!!!  It's funny how songs can be such a strong influence in our lives, and every single person has some sort of connection to music, no matter what genre they are listening to.  Now, there are a lot of songs out there that can be quite negative, but there are so many songs out there that spread a positive message and those are the songs I focus on.  And for today's Happy, I want to share lyrics from some of the uplifting songs I love to rock out to, starting with mine and Johnny's jam!

Positive thoughts for positive dreams!

Happy Thursday evening my Happy clan! I hope everyone had a marvelous day!  It was a nice day for me, I had a busy day but a nice one none the less.  My favorite part of today was the conversation I had with my Johnny on the way home from school.  The whole way home we talked about ways to look at life in a positive way.  I have to say, listening to him get all excited about always being happy and positive and finding a silver lining to all of life's situations was definitely my happy for today!

So, I thought that for today's Happy I would share the same positive thoughts with all of you.  They're just a couple simple thoughts that could make a big impact on your life if you let them:

Some see a glass as half full, some see it as half empty, but if you think about it, both are wrong.  

No matter how much liquid is in the glass, the rest of it is always filled with air so the glass is ALWAYS full!

You only live once is a lie... You live every day you wake up!  

So start living and enjoy every new day, chance and experience you get!!!

Shine like a star!

Happy Wednesday night my Happy clan!  I hope all of you had a super hump day!  I had a very nice day - long but nice.  Since it is so late it's going to be a quick Happy, but an awesome Happy :)  But all happy moments are awesome, aren't they?

Tonight's Happy is a very simple quote that has a very powerful message, and it fits with this being an evening post as well!

Always remember that you are a star and you must always let your beautiful light shine!!  Never be afraid to shine, not only will it make you feel great but it will make others around you happy too!!!  But, it is time for me to snuggle with my Matty and my blanket so until tomorrow, keep smiling and spreading that love!!

A daily reminder for you...

Happy Tuesday my Happy clan!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful day!  Mine was slightly crazy and slightly lazy ;)  But it was a good day - because I chose to let it be!!  I hope that's what you all did as well!

Today I wanted to give you a Happy that I've been using for almost my entire life, and it comes from an old Saturday Night Live skit.  Yes, those skits are comedic and meant for fun, but this skit was always so much more to me than that.  I'm not sure if you have guessed which one yet, but you don't have to wait anymore to find out... It's the Stuart Smalley skit!!!  Yes, I do look in the mirror and tell myself that I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it... People like me!!!  And you know what, you all should be doing that too!  You wouldn't believe how good it makes you feel!!!

So, why don't we all try it now.  Get up and go to your mirror - any one will work.  Now, look at yourself and repeat after me: I'm good enough! (don't be shy, you can say it) I'm smart enough! (good job!) And doggone it, people like me!!! (and guess what, they really really do!)

Now, didn't that feel good???  Of course it did!  So, your Happy today is actually homework.  I want all of you to start doing that every day!  Why, you ask?  Because - as we stated above... You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it - people like you!!!!!!!!  But, FYI - I love you!!  Just wanted to make sure I remind you of that as well :)  Until tomorrow, keep smiling and spreading that love!!

Meaningful Movie Moments

Happy Monday my Happy clan!  I thought today we all could use an earlier Happy and with the way my days have been going, if I don't do it now I won't be able to do it until much later, so now it is!  I've already been working all morning - even though I'd much rather take a nap ;)  But so far it's been a nice day!  Johnny had a good morning and starts kickball today... I wish I could go play kickball with him!  That was always my favorite sport to play in school.  I don't think he realizes just how much fun he is going to have!!  He is excited to give it a go though and that's all I ask of him.  Before he left I gave him a hug and kiss and reminded him what Rocky Balboa said "Every champion was once a contender that refused to give up!"

And that "see you later" message to my Johnny gave me my idea for our Happy for today.  We all love movies - whether they're action, comedy, romance or even documentaries.  And no matter what movie it is, we always take something from them.  I know most of the time movies are just made up tales of mystery and fantasy, but they're a great way to escape from the world and you can learn quite a bit from movies if you allow yourself.  In fact, some of the most inspirational quotes come from movies.  So, today I am going to share some of my favorite movies quotes with you all:

Get wrapped up in happiness!

Happy super late Sunday night my Happy clan!  I hope you all had a wonderful day!!  I had an extremely long day ... One that is finally coming to an end!  I've been working all day on a project for my boss and just as the clock struck 1am I finished.  Thank goodness for that too because I am tired!  But not too tired to make sure I post your Happy for today!

Since it is so late our Happy is going to be pretty short - but it's a great Happy!  All I kept thinking about as the evening got later and later was how I couldn't wait to snuggle with my blanket in my bed.  And then I realized what a perfect Happy that is!  So your Happy tonight is your bed and your pillow(s) and your nice, warm blanket!!  As you snuggle in bed this evening - remind yourself how awesome it feels when you can finally just lay your head down and just go to sleep!!!

Happy Saturday night my Happy clan!  I hope everyone had a beautiful day!  It was a great day for me with lots of easy running around :)  It was really nice spending the whole day with my guys - even when we were just sitting around trying to figure out what to do.  I love days like today!

I am quite tired this evening though ... The entire Powell household is actually ;)  I know I'll be falling asleep soon so I wanted to make sure to send a Happy out to all of you before the day comes to a complete close.  Tonight's Happy is a little gift from me to you.  I did not write this poem but it states what your gift of Happy from me is perfectly:

It's a Two-Part Friday...

Happy Friday my Happy clan!  I hope everyone had a super fabulous day!!  I did :)  I worked this morning and early afternoon - but got out earlier than I usually do on a Friday, and I was able to do a lot of extra stock for the evening crew as well!  We had pizza for dinner, which always makes for a happy dinner!  Johnny had a fantastic day at school and was a true example of a leader with his friends.  He saw a kid at school sitting alone and sad so he left his friends to go and check on the boy.  He brought him over to hang with him and his friends and a couple of them told Johnny they didn't want to hang with him because he wasn't cool enough.  The kid ran away crying and Johnny scolded his friends and reminded them that they didn't always have friends and to think of his feelings.  He then made them go and apologize to the boy and they all hung out afterwards and had a great time!  I'll tell you - I am just beyond proud of my Bug!!!  I think it's pretty safe to say I had an overly abundantly happy day :)

As I list out all my happies for the day I start thinking how easy it really was to find the happy moments and to ignore any bad that may have occurred.  Of course, if I sit here and just focus on the bad that happened I'd start remembering ... But I really don't want to.  I'm much happier only remembering the good!

I find it odd that so many people seem to focus on the things that make them upset or annoyed instead of the things that make them happy and full of cheer.  Did you know that the definition of pet peeve is favorite annoyance?  Favorite annoyance???  Isn't that an oxymoron?  Well you know what - I think we need to all have "pet happies" instead!!!  So we're going to have a two-part Happy today...

A soft melody for a happy sleep!

Happy Tuesday night my Happy clan!  It's another late post today and a quick one too because I am quite tired!  But I thought it would be nice to share a very sweet and soft melody to help you off to a happy and peaceful sleep!  I love falling asleep to quiet and beautiful instrumental music, especially piano pieces.  Recently I've been listening to a lot from the artist Brian Crain and his music is just so incredible not to share, so tonight's Happy is a piece by him called Imagining.

Little Dreams Bring Big Happies!

Happy Sunday evening my Happy clan!  As not only the day but the week is coming to an end I am sitting in bed thinking of all of you and hoping you each had a super week of happiness and sunshine!  I did - because I allowed myself to have it :)  Now with a new week upon us - will you all choose to have a happy week and let good triumph?!  Well, I sure hope so!!

However, it is still evening time and so I feel our Happy for tonight should be something bedtime related, don't you?  Like, for instance, a song about dreaming... And the first song that comes to my mind is "Dream a Little Dream of Me".  It's such a sweet and simple song of the sweet and simpleness that is love!  And it's so true, I know I sleep so wonderfully when I'm thinking of my loved ones ... and when I can feel them thinking about me too, well that's just an incredible feeling!!

So, today's Happy is Dream a Little Dream of Me performed by me in a Karaoke Competition about 5 1/2 years ago.  The first minute is just me on stage chatting away while waiting for the prep guy to get the music going and my family being silly behind the scenes so if you want to jump ahead the song starts at 1:01.  I had a lot of fun in this competition and I hope that I can get back into this again soon.  Anyways, on to the song:

Friday the 13th is a Happy Day!

Happy Day to my Happy clan!  So, I was in the process of posting this yesterday but was pretty busy so I ended up forgetting to finish my post for you all... I'm sorry!!  But, it was definitely a typical Friday the 13th for me!  Lots of happy and lucky moments happened yesterday :)  We got an extra paycheck we weren't expecting so bills were able to pay some more bills off, I found my gift card I got from my awesome sissy for Christmas so now I can get my nails done, my Johnny had an awesome day at school and got lots of Valentines from lots of his friends which made him so very happy and I got to see an old friend from grade school for dinner!!!  Now that's what I call a day of lucky happiness!!!

I find it so funny that people freak out over Friday the 13th and act like it's such a bad day - when in reality it's just another day!  In fact, you are in control of how the day unfolds, the day doesn't control you!  So, start making Friday the 13th a lucky day for you from now on - you get another chance in March so start prepping for your new lucky day!!!

Happy Thursday my Happy clan!  How is everyone doing so far today?  I'm doing pretty good - the cold seems to finally be working out of my system completely (16 days later...), I got to take a much needed nap today and I have picked out a super awesome Happy for today and I'm so excited to share it!!

So, I'm sure you all know or at least know of Shel Silverstein.  I've used him in multiple Happies already so if you've been checking in for your daily smile then you should know him quite well by now ;)  Well, today I will be sharing with you another one of my all time favorite stories which is written by none other than Shel Silverstein!  I bet you had no idea I was going to say that did you ;D

As a kid, I read a lot of Shel Silverstein.  I always felt so happy and content whenever I read his books, whether it was because of something that was just so very silly or something that was deep and heartfelt.  But of all his works - my favorite will always be The Giving Tree.  The love that the Tree had for the Boy is just so incredible... When I was younger I used to think how amazing that tree was and how sweet it was how she loved that boy!  Once I had my son, I read this story in a brand new light.  It finally clicked with me exactly what my parents meant when they tried to explain their love for us.  And this "I will love you forever without question no matter what!" love is just a sample of the love God has for us!!!  Isn't that just so awesome to think about?!?!

Anyways, as I was searching for a video to share of this story with you, I came across this fantastic claymation video.  They did great justice with this video - from the background scenery to the narrator!  So, without further ado - here's The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein:

Starry Starry Night...

Happy Wednesday night my Happy clan!  I hope you all had a wonderful day!  Since I posted so late for yesterday I was trying to hold off on today's until this evening but this evening ended up being longer than I planned... But oh well!  It's never too late for a Happy, right???

Since it's another evening post - and a nice late one at that - I thought it would be good to post something about the evening that makes it that much sweeter and happier, like, the stars!!  How incredibly awesome is it to just look up and stare at the infinite sky of stars...  Just too amazing for words!  And how can one not smile when looking up at that beautiful display of perfection?!?!  So, for today's Happy, I am sharing two different versions of my all time favorite painting, Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh.  The first is the original and the second is if he painted it over Chicago.  And in between these beautiful works of art, is the song, Starry Starry Night by Don McLean:

So, I fell asleep yesterday, with my phone in my hand... I guess I was tired!  I was so upset when I woke up today and realized I never posted your Happy yesterday, but then it hit me - that's because I was too busy performing the Happy of the Day!  Sleep is what yesterday's Happy was :)

Let your sun shine!

Happy Sunday my Happy clan!  I hope you all are doing well.  It's been a very long week but I'm so very thankful for all the time I've had to spend with my bestie!  Life is straight up horrible sometimes but I have a husband whom I love and who loves me back so deeply, I have the greatest son a mother could ever ask for, I have a family that would do anything for me, I have friends who love and care for me and on top of all that I have a best friend who has been my best friend for almost 21 years and will be for the end of time!!!  I thank God all the time he left that seat empty by Claudine that first day our Sophomore year of High School.  I was always a happy person but my bestie helped me turn my Happy Light on so much brighter!!!

It's such a wonderful thing to know you're loved by so many amazingly wonderful people and I know I've said it numerous times before but I really am so very rich it's unbelievable but I'm so thankful to God for blessing me how He has!  So shining my Happy light is easy which is why I am sharing this light with you!  We all deserve to be this happy and I'm going to keep trying to make that happen!

Girls Slumber Night!

So it's another super late post this Friday night for you my Happy clan.  This is because it's been another long day that was actually a very nice day.  Sad, yet not.  And it turned into an evening of us girls having an old school sleepover!

And that's the Happy for today!  Good times with super great friends!!  These moments don't happen very often so when they do, grab hold of them and enjoy every second of it!!!  Which is what I'm going to go do again now so until tomorrow, keep smiling and spreading that love!!!

A very quick Happy

Happy Thursday my Happy clan.  Today's Happy is a very quick and to the point Happy ... It's been a long week and we have another long day ahead of us tomorrow.  Today's Happy is a big thank you to all of you for loving me and being there for me!  I'm so very blessed to have each and every one of you so truly, thank you and I love you!!!  Sorry for the short post today but I felt this was all that was needed for today!  Until tomorrow, keep smiling and spreading that love!!

Clean your troubles away

Happy Wednesday my Happy clan!  I hope everyone had a wonderful day today.  I spent the day helping my bestie clean her folks place.  It was a long day of cleaning but the house looks fantastic! I'm so glad to know that I'm able to do something to help during this time.

It was quite fun cleaning all day - for the most part anyways ;) The whole time we cleaned we just kept talking about how we used to clean like that after our parties during our younger days.  Talk about fun!!  It was a day of cleansing ourselves of sadness and filling ourselves up with happiness and silliness instead!

I decided today's Happy would just be a fun song about getting things done in a super fun way... I give you Taking Care of Business by Bachman Turner Overdrive.

The choice to be happy is yours!

Happy Tuesday my Happy clan!  I hope you all had a wonderful day.  Today's Happy is being written from the kitchen of my best friend's parents' house.  It's so weird being here alone - yet it feels like home, probably because for so long it was my 2nd home.  It's strange how such a sad situation can bring out so many happy memories!

But that's exactly what our life is really made up with, lots and lots of happy memories!  The trick is to only focus on those moments throughout your life and forget the moments that make you sad.  No matter what you do there will always be something trying to bring you down but you must never let it win - you, and only you, chooses what life you're going to have so start focusing your mind on all the happiness and give yourself a good life!!!  Remember what Timothy Mouse told Dumbo: "The very things that hold you down are going to carry you up and up and up!"  You just have to let those things carry you up instead of knock you down!

Happy Monday to you all my Happy clan!  I hope everyone is having a fantastic day today.  It's been a day of errands today but I got things taken care of and was able to get a few things to help out my friend so I had a good day.

With everything going on this week I figured today's smile is going to be something straight to the point:

Make your life your happy!

Happy Snowy Sunday my Happy clan - I hope everyone who is in this snowstorm is enjoying every second of it!  I am actually considering going outside soon to make my own snowman!  It's been so long since I've made a snowman - it makes me smile just thinking about it!  But, even if it's not today, I will be making a snowman before I leave Chicago.  After all, how else do you make a Happy out of a snowstorm :)  Besides snowball fights, of course!

Another way to enjoy a cold, snowy day is to sit inside with your bestie watching lots and lots of TV in your pajamas!  Even though I didn't come out here for a vacation, I'm so thankful for this snowstorm.  It is forcing people to stay in and just relax and enjoy their life... And that's what we should always try to do.  Yes, I know it's hard sometimes, life is usually quite busy but that's why we're given moments like this.  To remind us that we need to slow down every once in awhile and just enjoy life!

They say you only live once but that's just not true, you live every day you wake up but what you choose to do with each daily gift is up to you!  And that's what today's Happy is.  A simple message to help you remember how important it is to actually live your life and not just get through it:
